I’m a big on DIY projects I make so many things myself and I want to start sharing those things with you. Before the post starts I want to share that I’ll be doing a Healthy Hair Challenge starting April 1st please click the link to learn more.
So I’m big on wearing my hair out and I would love to have more headbands for days when it’s not looking its best but some headbands aren’t sturdy enough for my hair or they’re too expensive either way I seem to be out of luck. I came across this video yesterday for DIY WIre Headbands and Bun Wire, vlogger Naptural 85 shows three methods of making headbands and bun wires without having to sew anything.
I’ve been making my own mud wash for about a year now and I always mix it up in a bowl. I’d been having such a hard time making it more like a thick liquid until I watched DIY Homemade Clay Hair Cleanser Shampoo Recipe. I used Rhassoul clay and Bentonite clay, lavender and Jasmine instead of ylang ylang, I have my own nettle oil that I’ve made, and sunflower seed oil instead of linden flower oil. I used it last night and my hair responded well to it and my twist out was still amazing.
What DIY projects do you want to see next Monday? Are you willing to try either of these?
My Square Market is now open for business and I have whipped butters available.

So I have big news…
I have decided to make my natural products available for you all to enjoy. No hair products yet but soon trust me I’m working on it. So I’ll be slowly releasing natural products because I don’t want to overwhelm myself I’m just one person and I’m doing this alone. First goodie on my list…..BODY SCRUBS.
Who doesn’t love body scrubs? You ever feel your skin after using them? It feels so amazing and soft but a lot of the scrubs you buy in stores contain more chemicals than ingredients to keep you and your skin healthy. I know this was promised so many times but here it is.
Spritz my hair with water mixed with my oil mix and seal with coconut oil. I do this when styling my hair in the morning and when putting my hair up at night. I use aloe vera gel on my edges for a little hold and moisture.
Deep condition (coconut honey mask or hot oil treatment).
Cowash with Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle conditioner.
When styling I use a shea and mango butter based leave in that I make myself.
To cleanse my scalp I make a clay mask for my hair. After I wash the mask from my hair I rinse with apple cider vinegar and water (3 parts water and 1 part apple cider vinegar) and then I condition with Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle. If my scalp is flaky, itchy, or there’s more build up than usual I use a baking soda rinse instead of the mud wash (1 part baking soda and 2 parts water) and afterwards I still rinse with apple cider vinegar and condition.
**If I run out of Trader Joe’s conditioner and I need to cowash my hair. I’ll substitute by using suave. I mix Suave’s Sleek and Shine with olive oil and castor oil. I also add peppermint oil, tea tree oil, and eucalyptus oil to it as well and that holds me over until I can make it to Trader Joe’s.
How do you care for your hair? Let me know in the comment section.
I have a new process for cowashing that makes my wash process so easy, my hair is so moisturized and soft, and best of all I am now finger detangling and using the comb less. I have a lot of hair. A LOT!!!!!
See all the hair!
On to the method. Naptural 85 is my hair crush b/c I think her hair is similar to mine and she was the first vlogger I subscribed to. Click here to learn about this new process. Try it and let me know if it helped.
It’s Day 17 of Oily October! How’s it been so far? I’m always on the go because I’m a full time student and I also work. When I get home at night I’m exhausted and as much as I want to just crawl in the bed I know I’ll have a harder time in the morning if I do. My nightly routine is so simple that I can do it in my sleep (I think I have a couple times).
Demetra’s Nightly Hair Routine:
– Spray hair with water and seal with oil of your choice (or aloe vera juice).
– Twist hair into a bun (if your hair is shorter do multiple buns this keeps hair stretched).
– Secure your bun with a hair tie and put on your satin scarf or bonnet (if you’re me you wear both).
Routine so easy a sleepy deprived person can do it and it’s fast. What oils are you using and how?
This is a heatless blowout achieved by stretching hair overnight in a bun.
All month long Oily October Challenge will be going on. I’ve teamed with Lauren of UntouchMyHair to bring this to you. Enter this week by commenting on this post or tagging your pics (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr) #LWD and #UTMH.
To enter you have to tag your starting pictures (your current length) this is not a contest to see who grows the most hair. We want all that enter to be active.
My first year as a natural came and went on September 8th. Here are my posts right after I took the plunge and just a year later I have a beautiful head of hair, it was scary at first but it was so rewarding. Look out for a post about my regimen, I was hoping to vlog my regimen but as of right now I’ll be blogging.
I celebrated my BC but my hair is in twists so I can’t show how much my hair has grown over the year. I asked Lauren of UntouchMyHair to tell me about her experience.
So last week I did a mud wash on my hair. I needed my hair to be extra moisturized and soft because I was going to attempt this CurlyFro tutorial by Naptural85. After my mud wash I didn’t need to add any products and I followed all the steps in the video. I let my hair dry for almost two days. It was dry after one day but I wanted to be sure.
So here’s how it turned out…
After two days I wanted more length so I parted my hair down the middle, sprayed each half of my hair with water and put them in a bun. One bun on each side. Here’s how it came out…
…As I was writing this post my hair was drying. I used baking soda on it for the first time to remove build up. It worked so well so I will be adding it to my regimen. I’ll be posting my regimen soon to show how I went from barely neck length to armpit length.
