How To Add Veggies and Fruit Into Your Diet

In less than a week the Healthy Hair Challenge for April will start rules are here. One of the challenges is to consume raw fruits and veggies at least three times a week. I’ve received a few questions from you on the matter. A lot of you don’t know how to add raw fruit and veggies into your diet because you’re busy or  you don’t have a blender. Here are a couple of ways to get you started.

  1. Start with salads. You can buy them bagged or make them yourself. They can be your full meal or you can add them on the side. I bought some spring mix and I add a handful to my lunch while I’m at work.
  2. If you don’t have a blender or a juicer and you want juices or smoothies. You can try buying raw juices and smoothies they have in the supermarket. Right now I have Bolthouse brand Juiced Greens, Green Goodness, and Berry Boost. I mix the Juiced Greens with Berry Boost or Green Goodness and that’s my smoothie for the day. I prefer to make my own but I haven’t been able to shop.
  3. You can add fruit to your yogurt or ice cream. You can have carrots as a snack. There are so many small changes you can make.
  4. When you go food shopping buy your fruits and veggies in bulk so you can make salads, smoothies, juices, and snacks.

Green Vanilla Chai Smoothie

image

I love my veggies the more I eat the better I feel. My 2 weeks vegetarian challenge has changed me forever. I have since eaten meat and my body hates it. I’m limited to seafood and sometimes poutry. I encourage you to try it. After this I’m definitely more creative in the kitchen. I have a smoothie every morning before work. I’ve been making different variations of the vanilla because I have yet to make it to the market for more fruits and veggies. I made this smoothie earlier. I want to post more recipes but I’m afraid you guys will judge me lol.

Green Vanilla Chai Smoothie

2 cups of vanilla almond milk (any milk will do)
1 handful of spinach (any leafy green will work)
1 1/2 frozen bananas
1 scoop of ice ( optional)
2 shakes of cinnamon
2 shakes of ground cloves
2 shakes of ground ginger
1 tsp of almond extract
1 tsp of vanilla extract
honey (optional)

Try it and let me know if you like it as much as I do.

Ok so my life isn’t totally ruined but lately my scalp has been going crazy. Ok maybe it’s been a while and I’ve been ignoring the signs. Anyway I knew from previous research that apple cider vinegar was my friend. I was using coconut oil on my scalp until I was able to get apple cider vinegar and I was pleased with it. So I headed to my local Trader Joes and let me just say that the place was packed. I felt like I was in a well lit club with slower music. There was almost no room to turn. Anyway I got my apple cider vinegar and also picked up some vitamin e oil for $2.99 or $3.99 now I can’t remember but either way it was a steal. I need this scalp therapy. Anyway I diluted my acv in a small spray bottle with water and sprayed my scalp. I had to be careful because I have in twists. After I rinsed and cowashed. I’ll have to update you on the progress but for the first time in a little while there is no itchiness when I go to apply my conditioner and most importantly NO FLAKES!

Prodcuts used:

Trader Joes Brand Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

Coconut oil

Organix Moroccan Argan Oil and Macadamia oil conditioners (love these)

One spray bottle filled with diluted apple cider vinegar

One spray bottle of water with a little of both Organix conditioners. I spray my twists in the morning and at night with this mixture to keep them moisturized since my hair gets super dry and it is difficult to keep it moisturized.

If dandruff irritates your scalp as well try this and let me know how it turns out for you.

Sassy Water?

Yes you read the title right “Sassy Water.” Now I know you’re thinking to yourself “What the *bleep* is sassy water or how can water be sassy?” Well I’ll tell you Sassy Water is this cleanse that I am starting next week. If you have lemons, cucumbers, mint leaves and water you have everything you need. I’m in dire need of a cleanse to jump start my new lifestyle. I am dedicated to living a better, healthier, and more fulfilling life. First step sassy water and the next step will be little diet changes here and there. First thing that has to go is the elimination of all the white stuff (sugar, flour, and rice). I’ll make the water next week and I’ll document everything. If you need a little cleanse try this one it’s easy and you don’t have to only drink this. You can eat as well.
