Rhassoul Clay Mud Wash

I haven’t treated my hair to a mud wash in quite some time. I recently ordered some organic Rhassoul clay from Buttern-N-Bars . This is where I get my organic butters from as well. Anyways if you haven’t tried a mud wash you’re missing out. You can apply a mud wash on dry, untangled hair and it will work miracles.  My hair is very thick and it can take a while to untangle. It moisturizes, untangles, and it leaves your hair so soft and you can do anything after that.

Rhassoul clay comes from Morocco. It has been used for centuries to take care of the body and hair. This is my first time using Rhassoul clay all my other mud washes have been with Bentonite clay which can be found in a couple places in North America. Bentonite clay left my hair so soft but I’ve found that most people that have tried both Bentonite and Rhassoul clay favor Rhassoul clay.

Here’s what you need:

Supplies

Supplies

1/2 cup of Rhassoul clay (add more of less depending on your length)

1/2 cup of water or aloe vera juce (I had to use water I ran out of aloe vera juice. It’s better)

2 tbs Vatika coconut oil (or any oil of your choice)

4 tbs Oil Mix (Olive, Sweet Almond oil, Castor oil, Jojoba oil, Avocado, and Vatika oil)*

*If you don’t have all of these oils use the ones you have

Mix the clay and the oils together first and then add water to the clay until it’s creamy.

Dry Hair Problems?

English: Coconut oil in solid state

We all have problems with our hair whether it’s relaxed or natural. The most common problem I’ve been dealing with and people have asked me about it dryness. There’s not one solution that will work for every head of hair. It’s all about trial and error, what works for someone else might not work for you. I will never be able to go to bed or leave the house without spraying with water and sealing daily but some lucky people out there can go days without adding moisture. If you haven’t found a way to keep your hair moisturized maybe these tips will help.

1. Drink your water.  You should be drinking half your body weight everyday. If you don’t like the taste of water you can add fresh fruit and herbs to add a little flavor and some vitamins.

Recovery, C-Power, Stressless, Digestive, and Detox vitamin waters

*You can add whatever fruit and/or herbs that you like. I like lemon and lime.
2. You should deep condition once a week or twice a month to add moisture and to strengthen your hair. If your hair is protein sensitive coconut oil is a great alternative to a protein treatment it’ll strengthen and moisturize without making your hair hard. Switch it up a little.

*I use warm aloe vera juice instead of apple cider vinegar now.

**skip to end of post for the oils I use in my mix.  I use Naptural 85’s hair and body mix as a reference.

3. Moisturize and Seal vs LOC method. When it comes to moisture retention there are two different methods I’ve tried and that I hear about a lot. Moisturize and Seal is just moisturizing your hair with water or a leave in conditioner and sealing the moisture in with an oil. The LOC method is helpful if your hair is really dry and you have trouble keeping it moisturized. L is for liquid and it’s usually water, O is for oil, and C is crème as in a leave in. So you spray your hair with water, seal with an oil of your choice and add a leave in on top for added moisture.

Not all oils are created equal. Some oils can penetrate your hair shaft and moisturize your hair and they are coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado oil.

Keep in mind these are just suggestions if you have a routine that works to it stick with it. If you’re having problems with dry hair I hope this helps. If it does help let me know and if it doesn’t help let me know. Everyone’s hair is different and what works for me might not work for you.

Chocolate -Peanut Butter “frappucino”

Chocolate frappucino
As promised earlier here is the chocolate frappucino recipe. Soo spoons good. I’m trying flaxseed for the first time and I figured why not make a smoothie drink only I added a little too much ice but it worked out.

image

Chocolate – Peanut Butter “frappucino”

1 cup of vanilla almond milk
Ice (I used to much so the amount is really up to you. Next time I’m using 1 handful.)
2 table spoons of flaxseed (I have the course ground from whole foods)
2 table spoons of honey roasted peanut butter
1 teaspoon of cocoa powder
1/2 a frozen banana
Vanilla extract and cinnamon to taste
It was so yummy even with the extra ice. I let it melt a little and put it back in the blender and it was perfect less like a water ice and more like a drink.

Green Vanilla Chai Smoothie

I love my veggies the more I eat the better I feel. My 2 weeks vegetarian challenge has changed me forever. I have since eaten meat and my body hates it. I’m limited to seafood and sometimes poutry. I encourage you to try it. After this I’m definitely more creative in the kitchen. I have a smoothie every morning before work. I’ve been making different variations of the vanilla because I have yet to make it to the market for more fruits and veggies. I made this smoothie earlier. I want to post more recipes but I’m afraid you guys will judge me lol.

Green Vanilla Chai Smoothie

2 cups of vanilla almond milk (any milk will do)
1 handful of spinach (any leafy green will work)
1 1/2 frozen bananas
1 scoop of ice ( optional)
2 shakes of cinnamon
2 shakes of ground cloves
2 shakes of ground ginger
1 tsp of almond extract
1 tsp of vanilla extract
honey (optional)

Try it and let me know if you like it as much as I do.

Two Weeks as a Vegetarian, Day 2

Yesterday I started my own personal vegetarian challenge. I’ve been challenging myself to eat better, be more active, and live a healthier life. This is a personal challenge for because I’ve let a lot of bad eating habits slip back into my life. I’ve been eating our more, less fresh foods and my body has been suffering. I’ve been tired and sluggish.

I’m hoping this challenge will help me with my self control and portion control. It also forces me to be super creative in the kitchen. It’s only day 2 but I’ve been busy. I’ve decided to start my day with Green Smoothies and from there it gets a bit creative. I’ve made a rice and veggie stir fry mix that should last me the next couple of days. I also munch on fresh fruit in between meals. I do need to pick up some beans and raw nuts to ensure I am getting my protein.

Recipes:

Green Smoothie Day 1

1 frozen banana (cut up)

handful of spinach

a couple strawberries

1 spoonful of coconut oil

1/2 cup of water

image

Green Smoothie Day 2

honeydew melon

red grapes

half of a frozen banana

strawberries

red spinach

broccoli

almond milk

4 tbs of Tropical Traditions Hemp Protein Powder (50% protein)

a spoonful of coconut oil

(I did not measure this one. It’s up to your taste buds)

image

Brown rice veggie stir fry

1/2 orange, yellow, and red bell pepper

2 handfuls of red spinach

red onions (to taste)

1 celery stalk

olive oil

Veggie, beef, or chicken stock.

Sautee all veggies over medium heat for about 5 minutes.

Add as much of your stock as you would water for the rice to your veggie mix, let it boil.

Add rice and let that simmer for 40 mins (maybe longer keep an eye on it).

It’ll fill up the whole house and it’s soooooooo good.

Are any of you vegetarian or vegan? How was it in the beginning?

Are any of you thinking of giving up meat? Why? Why not?

Please let me know your thoughts.
